Prompt a day to train your brain

Weekly challenge! It’s Friday, so I want to do a weekly challenge. This is weekly challenge #1.

You know those little blurbs on the back of novels? Well, for Weekly Challenge #1, you will write one of them. For a book that’s completely fictional and made up. What you want to do is to try and make it sound like a legit book. Whomever comes up with the best one will win a little something. (Over the internet, of course) Who will win?

Prompt a day and them prompt for a month

Pictures are always a fun way to get people to write stories. Today’s prompt will be a random photo. You don’t know what’s happening in the photo, you just have to write about the person in the photo and what you think is happening.

What’s going on?

Prompt a day and then carry on

Fairy tales are always fun to write. People love to listen to them and to change them and to make them adult-rated. However, when you get down to the skin and bones, they are in the same format: the girl (princess, sometimes) is in a bad situation, the boy (prince, most times) is looking for a respectable wife, the boy saves the damsel-in-distress, they live happily ever after, etc. So, in this day and age, write a modern fairy tale with your own little twist.

She is a hardworking businesswoman in New York City. He is the average Joe off the street. Even though they come from two completely different words, fate decides that they should be together. How will this all pan out when she finds out that everything she dreamed of was right in front of her all along?

Prompt a day and it becomes a habit

Today, we’re going to personify animals. Anthropomorphic animals are a theme that many writers use, especially children’s writers. So, we’re going to bring to life an animal of our choice.

Our main character is a banker for a forest. It keeps tabs on all of the other animals in the forest. However, the only animals that it can’t seem to control it’s rowdy children (pups, cubs, piglets, etc.) When the leader of the forest comes to complain to the main character, the main character does not know what to do. How will he/she handle the situation?

Prompt a day and then prompt some more

Today’s all about persuasion. Can you persuade your audience into actually believing in your characters? If your characters aren’t persuasive enough to the audience, then they will never be able to become beloved characters over the years. You must flesh out your character and make them believable. It made sound a little weird, but think of it as writing an epic back story that can relate to audiences and make them love your character.

The main character had a traumatic event in their past. For some reason, they could not remember as they had memory loss. Now, they want to find the clues. But they need help from five strangers. How will they go about this and uncover the mysteries inside their own head?

Prompt a day for a lifetime…

Today, we’ll be doing a memoir prompt. If you can’t write about yourself and your experiences in detail, then you definitely can’t write about a fake person and their fake experiences in detail. Don’t be nervous or afraid, just write about an experience you’ve had.

When you were a kid, you loved the feeling of freedom. Parents seemed too stuffy, so you wanted to stay away from them. Write about a time when you did get away and how that turned out. In the end, what did you learn from being away from mom or dad?

Prompt a day, prompt away!

Alright, now it’s time to get into your inner poet. Poetry helps with the lyricality of your writing. Words flow more naturally in poems, but we also want our words to flow in our writing. We’ll do a simple one today.

Write a free verse poem that talks about someone’s passion. This passion can be anything you want. But, you must not tell what your passion is. So, what is your passion?

Prompt a day keeps a man healthy, wealthy, and wise…

Alright, so today is all about descriptions. As writers, we have to create a lush world without using boring, average words that people use in their everyday lives. So, I am going to give you a scenario and you will have to describe it. Remember, use your five senses: sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste.

Write a paragraph about someone enjoying homemade ice cream on a blazing hot day. You may not use the words:

  • ice
  • cream
  • tasty
  • sweet
  • hot
  • cold
How are you going to describe eating ice cream without using this list of words?

Prompt a day keeps those creative juices flowing…

Super sorry about not posting one of these in a week! I’ve been so busy. However, I’m updating my queue so my prompts will be more…well, prompt. Okay, enough with the funny jokes, today’s prompt has a very flowery theme.

A lonely flower in a field. A small bud, it has yet to bloom. It feels sorry for itself because it doesn’t know how beautiful it truly is. All the other flowers laugh at the small flower because it hasn’t yet opened itself up. But at the end of the day, it blooms into the most stunning flower of all…

Prompt a Day keeps the writer’s block away…

Today’s prompt is for a conversational scene between two characters of your choice.

The air is tense. You can sense that. The person across from you is someone you’ve known your entire life. And here they are, staring at you, not talking. You try to speak, but they shush you. They open their mouth and in angry tone, they say, “We need to talk about what happened yesterday.” What happens from there surprises you…
